It’s a complicated story, more about ambition and corruption

(Or at least pushing the envelope) than buffoonery. DB was anxious to join the Wall Street party in the ‘90s, but they were a late arrival. So they were much more eager to take business and recognize fee and other income than they were good corporate governance.

Trump was an opportunity to take business without fierce competition from other banks, because other banks had been burned by him and wouldn’t touch him, as those below in the thread say.

Let’s hope the US voting public follows the lead of every other bank in the world and not DB in November. We should recognize that we’ve dealt with him and been burned. Time to treat him as “toxic”.
