I’m spun up about 2016, not really this year. Not even

A vote on the floor, and then the same set of repubs did something literally unprecedented with ACB - never done before. And in at least one case - Lincoln - he did chose not to do it in a similar circumstance. In another, Eisenhower made a recess appointment which was confirmed later, after the election (so dems might still be bent out of shape about Barrett hearing the Ocare case, but that’s different from a 30 to 40 year power grab).

Multi-generational, cynical, hypocritical power grab is what it all amounts to. The unconstitutional act was in 2016; the shamelessly hypocritical act is in 2020. You can suppose that dems would have done all those same things - maybe they would have - but we don’t have to suppose about the repubs.

I’m really not crazed over the ideology of the court - if Garland had gotten a floor vote, I’d have less to say now. If he had been confirmed unanimously, which is what “advise and consent” should really mean, then I would have favored the same result for ACB now.
