We’ve seen from the trumpublican party, truly just a cult of one individual, is normal, Washington is broken, kinds of things. In fact, I think unrealistic expectations about the workings of a representative republic of over 330 mil people helped give us Trump in the first place.

Nothing in Schumer’s remarks indicated that they would have failed to bring a Bush nominee to the floor for a vote if a seat opened with 1 yr left. It certainly suggests that Schumer would have asked dems to vote against the nominee (certain dems may not have gone along, depending on their electoral circumstances). Bring it to the floor and vote it down - I can live with that more easily than complete abdication of responsibility followed 4 yrs later by an unprecedented rush to confirm by a pres overwhelmingly expected to get the boot - in a week.

No, I don’t agree that this is just normal tit for tat escalation. The repubs over the past 4 or 5 years responded to a series of pistol shots with a bazooka. They elevated the dysfunctionality on court appointments to absurd levels, where now all bets appear to be off.
