I think he got concerned when Sanders took the early lead and felt he
needed to jump in to consolidate the moderate block. But if that's the case, he should still have lay the ground work much earlier so he has more flexibility. The optics of jumping in at the last minute then try to buy his way into the primary was bad. Not prepared for the debate certainly didn't help either. But then again, I'm not running a multi-billion business empire and have a lot more time to do arm chair QB.
