Your approach on SS could work. I would means test it rather than raising the retirement age (had another post in a different thread today on that), but you can get to balanced a few different ways.

I agree with you on Medicare for All. If that's ever on the table I'll gladly argue strongly against that one because Bernie and company have never articulated or even acknowledged how you make up the implicit income that comes from employers' paying for insurance. Collectively, there have to be major changes to make Medicare/caid balance even before you start talking about putting the rest of the country onto the plan.

For what it's worth, this is the kind of policy debate where I was squarely on the GOP side for years. Trump just flipped over the card table and made any discussions on entitlements irrelevant. The Trumpists in the GOP have swung towards populism, which is what I always hated about the left's economic policies.
