we'll very likely be fine. Yes, in terms of deadliness, it's not "just like the flu". Again, I don't mean to pretend this isn't a serious thing, or that we shouldn't be taking reasonable steps to prevent it. While not as stringent as my sister, we were probably more careful than many, yet still got it. And are getting through it just fine. And I think that's the point of the original post, and what we've seen with the 2nd and 3rd waves despite all our efforts the last 9 mos, as well as what we've been seeing in Europe - unless we all go into cocoons, there is going to be more spread, so let's be honest about what that means, and what should be considered reasonable efforts to stop it.

But by that comment, I mean for 99% of the people that get it, the result is "just like the flu", or even less for folks like me, not to mention the countless folks that are asymptomatic. That's kind of the point, for every 98 or so of me, that have flu like or less symptom, you'll get 1 Vinton, and 1 that unfortunately doesn't make it. I would take this over any flu I've ever had, yet we don't shutdown the economy, all start wearing masks, and shutter schools for the flu.

Yes, it's more deadly than the flu for a tiny fraction that do get it, but we have to keep that 99% in perspective when trying to balance a solution with all the other negative impacts that "solution" brings with it. In that respect, I do think DeSantis' approach in total made much more sense than what we've seen in NY, CA, and other places.
