I like localities trying out different things.

Whether it’s Seattle with the $15 minimum wage, or Massachusetts with Romneycare, or to a weird extent Kansas with their no taxes are awesome.

Localities pushing boundaries helps provide data to know what works and what doesn’t. Ideally that data would then be used to set sensible policies.

In the case of minimum wage, Seattle showed an initial net benefit to raising minimum wages. In my mind it makes sense to raise the federal minimum wage considering it hasn’t budged in a long time. And the initial data from Seattle showed a net benefit to raising the minimum wage.

But where I’m not as far left as Bernie/AOC is that $15 is not necessarily based on science. It’s round, it’s easy. And $15 in Wise County goes further than $15 in Seattle. So while the federal minimum wage should be higher, it shouldn’t be based on the wage needed to live in Seattle or NYC. What that number is 10, 11, 12, 13.27 - I’m not sure.
