Exec comp is out of control due to board election procedures in US...but

it is mostly stock comp ....an increase in stock that dilutes other shareholders and typically non cash. Still has economic value, but typically doesn't impact free cash flow...so many investors ignore it (even though they shouldn't). Comp to most employees is cash and factors directly into pricing if profit margins are to be maintained.
