The GOP isn't a big tent

The GOP was overrun by a populist insurrection. Old line Republicans mostly voted for Trump on the theory that a bad Republican was still better than any Democrat, or on single issue items like SCOTUS picks. But make no mistake about it, there are gaping fissures within the party. Witness their near total inability to pass legislation even with total control of the lawmaking apparatus!

As far as the Dems go, the article went on at some length about the author's theory that it was a mistake to let the 2016 election become a referendum on the culture wars while almost totally ignoring the economic concerns of Flyover America. It certainly doesn't HAVE TO be that way.
