They absolutely do ... long term

...but long term voters are not the ones voting today. Today's (Trump) voters are concerned with losing blue collar jobs to immigrants, and with criminals and terrorists coming across the border.

Both of these are largely boogeyman issues, but the Dems have done a craptastic job of explaining that in any way other than screaming about racism.
