Wasn't the entire concept of ACA at its core more or less the same idea behind Soc Sec and Medicare? Ponzi scheme-esque. The whole thing relies on healthy young people buying insurance that we all agree they are unlikely to need to finance the HC of older people much more likely to need it, right?

Essentially, 20 somethings pay in and most of the time their money goes straight to the benefit of other people. Kind of like SS and Medicare, and we know what kind of shape they're in. Idea being when you get old, the 20 somethings will eat your costs then. Don't worry.

ACA is deeply flawed and of course vulnerable to chipping away by opponents. I remember thinking at the time of passage that this rush job, ultimately freezing out political opponents, is bound to create something very flawed.

Of course rush job back then did mean hearings, early efforts, at least, to be bipartisan, and that was still a flawed process. The repubs in control now - they took that flawed model, and in their efforts to repeal Ocare and now reform the tax code, are now elevating it to something totally absurd.

How will this tax thing be anything other than a disaster given the rush job? The 1986 reform started in 1982.
