And what did we end up with? Essentially the same "scam". I'm a 50ish single plan buyer with a vasectomy. And my plan covers child dental, maternity, BC pills, etc. On a high deductible plan which discourages me from going to a doc because (thankfully) I am very unlikely to ever come close to paying off the deductible before benefits start really kicking in.

BTW I'm actually not averse to a Single Payer plan, especially if it's as you describe - catastrophic and some cost effective preventative screening. Not because I think it's the best approach (there are downsides, but there are trade offs in everything), but because I think it may be the only viable approach left. But I seriously doubt those that brought us this mess (or the GOP for that matter) would take the approach to Single Payer you describe. They certainly didn't take that approach to mandated coverage items here.
