This withdrawal by Trump was anything but strategic. It was rash. It

Followed a phone call by just hours and left our military flat footed.

The idea that this is the US or NATO standing aside and throwing up its hands as Erdogan reconstitutes the Ottoman Empire is probably absurd, and definitely deeply troubling if it isn't. It is exactly where all this nationalism around the world is threatening to lead, and would ratchet up the risks of widespread war dramatically.
