Yes, impeachment is political and the Dems thought impeachment for obstructing an investigation that was inconclusive on whether or not Trump broke any other laws would likely backfire. They think this is different, but that is doubtful in terms of Senate conviction chances. The nation is too balkanized and the fact is there are not enough Republican senators who have to answer to blue or purple electorates to get to the votes needed. Too many Senators who answer to the "shoot someone on 5th avenue" crowd who are all in on Trump and simply do not care if he broke the law, abused his authority, or whatever -- because secretly they WANT a dictator because living in a democracy where they are the minority scares the living shit out of them.

Sad time for America. But we will have a chance to vote this scumbag out in a year.
