Nice non answer. Whether you think it's a dumb system or not, it IS a
system that is in place right now. If we made you king for a year (putting aside the scariness of that thought for a minute), do you just cut social security spending in 2021? or do you cut social security spending AND the tax. If you do the latter, your budget deficit would increase slightly in 2021.
I mean it's sort of interesting (but not really) to have theoretical/philosophical discussions on taxes and government spending. It gets a little more difficult to take a position on actual policy decisions that would have to be made in the real world. So I'm just trying to figure out where you come down given were we are now... not what you would do in some parallel universe where we build a time machine and take out FDR before he can implement the new deal.
I know making decisions are tough, but give it a try. What would you do with social security in 2021 if you were king for the year? I told you what I would do.
