Trusted to be the arbiter of a political issue. “They are not necessarily to be trusted”. No, in fact it is absolutely necessary that they be trusted. Which doesn’t mean you can’t appeal, but their job is to be the impartial arbitrators of disputes. Our nation, our whole system of checks and balances, relies on it.
Once the process is complete, including appeals, we don’t get to simply disavow them and go our own way. That’s the good old “deep state” argument you made, and it would lead to chaos, and to undemocracy.
