take this chance (serious illness and long term complications) -- unless they believe from what they hear and read that their odds with COVID are better than anything that could happen by taking the vaccine? Put aside other absolutely legit reasons related to public health policies to get vaccinated -- even if solely about the individual, when I hear someone say "oh well, the odds were really in their favor because they were strong and healthy" -- as if there was nothing else they could have safely done -- it is just mind blowing to me.

Much of this is still ultimately about an absolutely factually incorrect analysis about the safety and efficacy of the vaccine combined with the rationale for some that taking a vaccine somehow makes them less human or autonomous or a "slave" to the state. It seems human nature for some percentage to always harbor feelings like this about medicine and vaccines and government policy in general, but never in human history have we seemingly known so much and with such transparency available yet been so willing to find any rationale to reject things.
