My son, generally a Bernie Bro, used to get into very heated discussions with his mostly conservative football buddies as well as his liberal classmates over topics like race and micro-aggression. Near as I can tell, they mostly got along because he could articulate his objections without getting too bent out of shape. He generally thinks of the gender stuff as bullshit but really doesn't care how people want to think of themselves or who they want to sleep with.

He isn't an optimist about the future though, sadly, particularly regarding climate change. Or as he noted during the recent heat dome, "I don't think of it as hot. I think of it as the coolest summer for the rest of my life!"
