Its sad that school board elections have become politicized. You may recall the controversy with the Jefferson County school board (a district that surrounds Denver to the west). A bunch of tea partiers were elected as a majority of the Board (they have since been recalled and replaced by moderates). One of the now-recalled tea party members proclaimed her belief that AP US History needed to be more patriotic and emphasize more of the good and the capitalistic and more flag waving, which led to student walkouts. In any event, the moderates who replaced the recalled tea partiers stood for office this year and were handily reelected.

And in Douglas County, a conservative district south of Denver that was supposed to be a leading light for conservative school reform when its conservative board had been elected many years ago, flipped to more moderate/liberal candidates.

This is clearly a backlash in all these jurisdictions against Trumpism and, more broadly, the conservative forces that back him.
