For those favoring a gun ban primarily, for the sake of discussion if you

assume SCOTUS were to shoot down the proposed bans as unconstitutional for unduly infringing on 2A rights (I realize that's far from likely as we can and do have limits already, but it's the basis for my question), what steps would you then take to try and minimize/end not only these mass shootings but also gun violence in general? What do you pass, other than a ban?

The reason I ask is two fold. First, I still believe that unless you are willing to round up the millions of to-be-banned guns, shift spending to cover the cost of imprisoning those that simply possess the banned guns, even more so if the gun is brandished or used in a crime, and compound that with the corresponding hit on the economy/productivity for removing so many from society, that even if you pass the ban of your dreams, it would be mostly ineffective. We see examples of these types of ineffective and lightly enforced laws every day. Second, we are seeing some willingness to move from the intransigent resist everything approach by the GOP, but I haven't seen many similar moves from the Dems that don't seem to accept anything but a ban. So if you're going to talk about compromise, bi-partisan solutions, etc., what exactly would that be from the ban favoring side if a ban was not an option?

As an aside, if Trump were to actually accomplish some meaningful changes after decades of nothing, even if it's far from your ideal, would you finally praise him for getting it done? Yes, that's mostly a rhetorical question.
