but I do have a problem with the private sale of guns without having gone through a background check (even if we already have laws making it illegal to sell to someone that could not pass a background check, which we do a poor job of enforcing). You can sell to a dealer now. You can also, as a private citizen, sell your guns to a private individual without doing a background check. That is the "gun show loophole" even though it has zero to do with the gun show itself. I'm just saying we should require and make it as easy as possible that those private sales also go through a background check. BTW you can't assume that dealers would just happily buy whatever guns you want to sell. Don't know how many of them want to even deal with selling "used" guns and there are likely some serious liability concerns for them with doing so.

As an aside, I never really understood why the NRA would oppose this. Getting a background check done would be a nominal cost ($20 or even less) that could easily be passed on to the buyer, and if anything it would seem to strengthen the rights of gun owners as it would eliminate that very valid criticism against gun ownership that is the "gun show loophole".
