That's an old tactic, one my hometown author nailed in his book
"Deer Hunting with Jesus." It basically comes down to making poor whites feel good about themselves by laughing at minorities or foreigners who live worse than they do. As Mr. Bageant put it "we may be poor, but we ain't coloreds."
Consistent with his bullshit narrative about "Chicago" and "inner cities" or all this nonsense about "sanctuary cities" and other lies that are meant to show a once-great America decaying before our very eyes that doesn't really exist (because most cities are thriving, especially so-called sanctuary cities that have far less a crime or unemployment problem than they did 20-30 years ago, etc.). It's all part of pitting one part of poor america against the rest of it (including millions who aren't poor but somehow think they are).
