So the problem is that Durbin blew the whistle, not that Trump said it. Ok
Even forgetting the ramifications of "I don't care if the president is a full fledged racist - it's the guys who shined the light on it that we should be after", if Trump assumes he has a right to privacy in saying something like that in front of membership of the opposition party, closed door or not, well, that would just be one more indicator of the fraud that is the "Art of the Deal".
I didn't "just rehash" my and and many other complaints about Trump - I answered your post, which like devotees of demagogues throughout history tend to do, was just an attack on those critiquing Trump, not a defense against the critique itself.
"These guys all make like they loved Reagan" is nonsense - they say no such thing. They basically say as bad as Reagan was, Trump is a whole new level of bad.
Personally, I was an enthusiastic Reagan supporter in the 1980s. Reagan and Trump are polar opposites IMO. Reagan was no demagogue. He began his presidency in a basket case of a country that had just lost Vietnam, endured a decade of economic malaise and "stagflation", and been humiliated by the Iran hostage crisis. He was all about a positive message. Trump is all about the dark. Everyone's out to get us, just like everyone is out to get him personally - we need tariffs! We need walls on our borders! The boogeymen are coming for us!
Point is, the Party of Trump has little in common with the Party of Reagan.
