Yes, now that I've seen Trump's quote, he should've said
"Germany's totally controlled by Russia because they'll be getting from 60 to 70% of their Natural Gas from Russia" (or 60-70% of their imported energy if that's the correct figure)
His sloppy use of just "energy" is no different than your attempt to use a different statistic of 20% to try and minimize their dependence (or more likely to exaggerate the difference to push the "Trump lies" narrative).
But Trump's point remains valid - you are increasing your dependence on Russia, you are sending more money to enrich the very country and threat you want NATO to defend against, and meanwhile you are one of the bigger laggards in the EU for spending on that defense.
Two lines in that article I couldn't agree more with:
"I don't even know what he [Trump] means by that, it's hard to say," she added.
European Commission deputy head Valdis Dombrovskis, who said: "We find that kind of rhetoric unhelpful."
Both of those seem true. And both of those fall on Trump. Even if his point is valid.
