opposed in principle to the idea of not keeping poor people in jail while they await trial for non violent offenses while we allow rich people to go free just because they can afford it and the poor person can't. By non violent I mean shoplifting, turnstile jumping, burglary, petty theft, fraud, etc....

But people accused of violent crimes that are deemed to be a threat to the public should be held without bail (cash or otherwise) and be afforded the right to a speedy trial. And non-violent criminals who fail to show up should be a) thrown in jail for contempt and b) lose all future "rights" to non-cash bail.
