How long do we wait for the environment for a deal to get better?

What makes us think it would ever get better? The country just had dueling inaugurations! There is no consensus Afghan govt to bring into a negotiation.

I think this is the best we should realistically count on for the foreseeable future, so what would we be continuing to sacrifice blood and treasure for?

And I'm saying that knowing the outcome is probably going to suck, and this will be yet another case of the US breaking it, not fully accepting ownership, and leaving with it still very much broken.
