get to claim the moral high ground for failing to completely take over as the governing power. Once you've overthrown the power structure, you either have to become the power structure or leave completely and be okay with whatever comes out of the power vacuum. That is as true today as it was when Machiavelli wrote it in "the Prince". The idea that noble Afghans were going to rise up and deftly administer the country without "a strong hand" was always a pipe dream. Look at the guys that have been installed as government heads since the Taliban was overthrown. They've all been dogged by corruption(either their own or that of family or close associates) and none has had the popular support to advance the concept of peace. That isn't going to change. Either impose peace or get out.
