What's this?

It's funny, after posting that I did some very quick research on the topic

and found that article, as well as others that gave very different results like these two:

That essentially concluded there is no difference between public and private. (at least one of those was done to combat the private prisons' claims that they produced lower recidivism)

Not concluding or arguing one way or the other, just found it odd that the answers would be all over the map like that. I would also add that anything coming from the Human Rights Defense Center (on prison performance) probably needs to be taken with some healthy grains of salt as well.
