We have a much longer relationship with the flu than COVID...

Acting with more caution in this instance makes sense to me. Again, the vaccination appears safe. Every physician I encounter, I ask them what they think about it. Invariably, the response carries an incredulous "what do you think I think?" vibe. On medical/public health grounds, I don't get the resistance.

If it's a political thing, I understand that even less.
