What's the artificial limiter? Number of medical school slots?

If there was more demand wouldn't more schools start medical schools or expand existing ones.

Being a doctor is a pretty good gig... particularly for specialists, but I don't think non-specialists make THAT much. I think a family practice doctor or Pediatrician makes something like $150K on average. And those earnings don't start until you're ~30 and you're starting in a 6 figure hole. Cut that by 30%, and I think people think longer and harder before making the 11+ year investment in becoming a doctor. Maybe that is completely offset by less qualified applicants who couldn't make the cut before now having a shot at becoming a doctor. And maybe for family practice / pediatrics, that's not such a bad thing. Neither are rocket science.

I still think we ultimately end up with single payer but with a 2 tier system where people with means have quicker access to better care and everyone else has to wait.
