Just read a recent Chuck Berry interview
Lots of articles circulating after his death. He surprisingly drove a Toyota Avalon in his old age. He told the interviewer he still was regularly pulled over by the cops for no reason he could discern and could only assume it was simply because of his race. He said they always let him go as soon as they realized who he was but that he continued to get pulled time after time. I've heard or read the same basic tale from black friends, judges, lawmakers, businessmen, etc. Unless you've lived with that kind of petty (and not so petty) harassment all your life, it's hard to imagine its effects.
