I don't disagree that it's a political issue ... I'd also argue that the
fact that Trump is President and Sanders got so many votes is indicative of the fact that people aren't willing to face facts, prefer to bury their head in the sand and turn toward protectionism as opposed to really getting on board with rising tides. That would require buy-in and a willingness to attempt to become part of the knowledge economy. Trump and Sanders basically told them they don't have to -- which is what many apparently wanted to hear.
