As with so many things, if smart people could figure this stuff out
it would've been solved a long time ago. Ferguson happened during our daughter's senior year at an inner city high school. Lots of her friends were up in arms and she and I had long talks about the incident. To her credit, she realized from the start that the facts of that incident were ambiguous at best and that it wasn't even close to the clear case of right or wrong it was being made out to be by many, including many of her friends.
Every cell phone being a video camera will do more to alter bad police behavior than anything else I can think of. My old law professor Charlie Whitebread said that there were 2 tragedies in the Rodney King case: that it happened in the first place and that the video was made public before the officers involved wrote and signed their reports.
