We are in a conundrum because that would wreck our economy


at least in the short term.

As has been pointed out a lot recently, healthcare is 1/6 of the economy. If we cut our funding down to Switzerland's level, that would mean we are eliminating 1/12 of the nation's GDP.

There goes the cities booming off of "eds and meds". There goes a ton of jobs in insurance or nurses (wherever the cuts were made to achieve the drop). It would be bad.

I imagine spending would adjust on other things eventually but there would be some time lag.

So I don't know what the answer is. I want to reduce costs but this would have a huge economic effect. I think the short-term goal should be to stop the rise in healthcare, but this does not actually reduce costs.
