That's true for some, but we see the same thing even among the unemployed

I see it among my family and neighbors. It's widespread among the lower middle class and lower class especially. Folks in that culture could win the lottery, and they're not going to start eating organic kale if they do. Remember the dinner table in the Ricky Bobby movie?

It's a false comparison to say that because someone can't afford organic blueberries they have to eat at McDonald's. As I mentioned below, whole foods at conventional grocery stores are much cheaper than processed foods (relying on frozen veggies, rather than so-called "fresh" produce--which is less healthy than the frozen stuff that is super cheap). A person who insists on eating hamburgers can buy frozen patties, buns, etc. and spend much less than if they buy the burger at McD's. Even less than that if they buy ground beef and make their own patties.

We've got to quit spreading the false message that a person has to have a lot of money to eat a healthy diet. That is a deadly myth.

Interestingly, when I was growing up it was the "rich" people who could afford to buy their food at grocery stores, whereas poor people (in the country at least) had to eat food they grew themselves. Somewhere along the last 30 years or so that has flipped. Now eating home grown food is supposedly a privilege of the well to do and eating fast food (which we couldn't afford) is for poor people. Amazing.

We only sell at the farmer's markets in Danville and Chatham. We could get a lot more for our produce in Nova, but we're too far away and that wouldn't be consistent with what we're trying to do here.
