Who is saying they would eliminate guns overnight?

this short-term solution talk is a total red herring... I lived across the street from a public HS in NY for a while that installed metal detectors, and students just tossed weapons to their friends waiting by the windows on the 2nd floor- people will find ways to do things if they really want.

I don't think anyone is as naive or stupid as you think they are, its about figuring out what type of balance we want, as a society, and working toward it. If anything, the point you're making seems a little simplistic.
