and just treat all employees as expendable and think they can just make decisions and the mere fact that they made the edict means everyone will follow are rarely successful over the long term.

Yes, a CEO can unilaterally make decisions unlike a gov't executive, and there are clear differences between a CEO and a gov't executive, but GOOD CEOs and business leaders are successful by getting their employees to buy into their vision and in creating an environment where people to want to follow them. not by simply dictating what everyone needs to do. And a lot of those skills of influence, persuasion and general leadership translate to ALL aspects of life. And CEOs have "constituents" called customers that they have to answer to.

I think someone like a Tim Cook could be a very effective politician. Someone like Jack Welch, probably not so much. I think Mitt Romney was a pretty effective governor, although I'm not close to Massachusetts politics, and he was certainly an effective business leader.

So I think it's painting with a broad brush and not fully understanding the role of a successful business leader that would lead one to say that leading a business in NO WAY prepares you to be president.
