Hurricane that was supposed to pass over Boca as a Cat 4 or 5. Once we got to Orlando, the path changed taking it well south and west of Boca, but then straight over Orlando... so we made the call to un-evacuate. On our way back, I thought I'd try to get gas at a service area off the turnpike because there was no gas at all in south Florida. I pulled into the service area and there were a bunch of state troopers with their cars set up to block access into the parking lot, but the gas pumps appeared to be open. I obviously wasn't supposed to head toward the pumps, because I had a trooper come running up on my vehicle screaming at me like a lunatic. I was in my car with my wife and kids and and had my window rolled down (so he could see I was an average middle aged dude with his family) and I was just crawling along. It caught me completely off guard and it was more than a bit unnerving. I apologized and said I was just looking for gas and I couldn't tell that the area was blocked off. He was just a total jackass and yelled at me for not following their instructions, told me the gas pumps were closed and then sent me on my way.

If I was a young black man, I think I would instinctively have punched it as he came running at me and a high speed chase would have ensued.

Maybe he was having a bad day, but Jesus, he was totally unhinged over nothing at all. If that's how you react to someone you think was not following your instructions, you need to find a line of work that doesn't involve interacting with the public with a billy club and a gun.
