Your last point is a good idea, just don’t know how practical.

I’m not going to deny there is a thin blue line. But what you probably don’t realize is the reason for it. And that line isn’t any different than the yellow line for school bus drivers or the red line for firefighters or you name it.

People are liars, and yes the cops, bus drivers etc aren’t any different. But what is different is the public constantly lie on us. There are 75 or so drivers in my zone, out of 5 zones. We hear the radio traffic from everyone in our zone. There are at least 10 false accusations against us a day. Most are minor like the parents saying they watched the bus drive by without stopping, when gps proves the driver did.

Others are more serious. Last year I was accused of brake checking my elementary students as a form of discipline. What really happened was I had to stop suddenly because a car pulled out in front of me at a light and a kindergartner who had fallen asleep fell out of his seat. I reported what happened and checked on him at the next stop.

That evening I get a call from my supervisor about the allegation and thankfully my cameras caught the entire incident as I reported it. Ended up being a kid I had written a referral for lied to his mother just to try and get me in trouble.
