Intel is a high tech firm, that employees a lot of engineers, and was more/less an engineering company fully for decades. Now, I'm a fossil, 55. Received a BSEE from UVA in the mid 80s. Out of our class of maybe 50 or so ( I can't recall), there may have been 5 female engineers, and maybe fewer than 10 non Asian minorities. Outside of Civil engineering, I think most engineering disciplines still struggle with women. So go back 25 years, I suspect the number of men at Intel was probably >90/10 (I mean, if their goal in 2015 is to have 26% women by 2025, I suspect 20 years ago, it may have been 95/5). I think it is same to assume that the leader % of the company today, probably reflect that split from years ago.

Now, regarding the title "Professional" and the pay descrepancies for a single title. Hard to say there is a problem. Potentially the male professions have been there for a lot longer and thus have seen years of salary growth from one end of the band to another. (as I stated, 20 years ago, I suspect Intel was >90% male, therefor the vaste majority of women working at Intel may be on the "newer" side) I worked at a very big company, and yeah, as I was approaching my final years, just due to the fact I'd been there for a long time, I continually received decent raises and eventually capped out in the salary band.
