Was currious so looked it up; 6 black Head coaches

across the 30 teams, or 20%. All but maybe 1 played in the NBA (Lloyd Pierce?).The road to a NBA head coach position appears to be by being a assistant coach in a successful NBA program. But of the 24 white head coaches, I think only 5 or 6 played in the NBA.

Interestingly,there are 16 former NBA head coaches currently working in the NBA as assistants now;12 of them are black.I think 10 of them are former NBA players. None of the the white 4 played in the NBA to the best of my knowledge.

Which implies that black head coaches need NBA exoerience as an assistant AND as a player to get a head coach job. White coaches do not need to have played in the NBA.
