Much of our media has become the equivalent of a home team’s sportscasters If not straight up propaganda, and people tend to tune in to media that tells them what they want to hear. Whenever one’s “side” is not in charge, the message is consistently apocalyptic.
Personally think we’re still only beginning to learn what effects social media and filtered (unvetted and often downright unethical) “news” reporting has on the way we perceive information and process it. I also get the sense that the Russian now Trumpism “noise” strategy is dangerously effective. Just flood the airwaves with bullshit, lies and half truths and accuse everyone of presenting a bad fact of being a loony conspiracy theorist or, in Soapbox vernacular, “fish hooked” until no one can tell what’s real and what isn’t and starts to question it all (otherwise known as the 2018 buzz word of the year, “gaslighting”)
It’s disgusting but it works.
