I'm not thinking of messaging per se,
but questioning the assumption and implications that follow "things are actually improving at amazing pace." I may be leaping way too far from Joey's original post in that. I think that statement is true by a lot of metrics, but it might not reflect reality on the ground for large enough number of individuals to stave off challenges to the political orthodoxy, as was the case with Trump, and it's not to be assumed going forward. Technology, science, and medicine improve that way linearly (though there may be unrealized downsides.) Politics, ethics, conceptions of "the good life" continue to ebb and flow, and significant numbers are apparently not finding real improvement there. Do agree that people are susceptible to demagoguery and a "sky is falling" tendency, but there has to be an underlying real dissatisfaction for the demagogue to take advantage of. There are other times where populism was on the back burner, but just recently it's a prominent force.
