I think we are talking past each other to a degree
I am not anti-globalization if what you mean is a natural shrinking world due to lower communication and transportation costs. As you put it, that would be insane.
I am against the current model of laizzez-faire free trade that encourages a race to the bottom. This system is not mandated by any transportation or communication technology, but is rather the result of political decisions. We should make different political decisions and globalization (if you just mean a more interconnected world) will still happen. I am not advocating for protectionism, but rather a (in my view) more just way to take advantage of the new interconnected world.
And thanks for the book suggestion. I will add it to the list. But I don’t disagree with premise. Humans do suck at predicting the future. But as behavioral economics as shown us, we can be irrational in our positivity as well. Examples are pretty much every economic bubble that can never end.
However i don’t think this means we should be agnostic about our future. We have to try.
The current system is setup to maximize economic efficiency with regards to litttle else. This often means a race to the bottom on labor and the environment. There are predictable effects that happen from this. We shouldn’t just throw up our hands
