Do they? When my dad was living in California he and a colleague from

Sweden were comparing notes on taxes. This was back in the '80's, but with federal, state and local taxes, he was paying as big a percentage as his friend from Sweden but not getting nearly as much for his money. Dad didn't complain, he still made very good money. But he did lament that his tax dollars didn't cover universal healthcare and education costs.
