I'm at the point where I think there are two valid solutions to this mess

Solution 1 - Fully socialize medicine and go to a single-payer. Personally, I'd prefer it be done at the state level, and not the federal level since (a) I don't trust the federal government to manage the health care of 300M people efficiently, and (b) it is unconstitutional.

Solution 2 - Fully capitalize medicine. Force providers to disclose up-front what things cost, allow consumers to make informed choices re. their care (the way they do with virtually everything else they spend money on), and reserve health insurance for catastrophic care only. Things like a kid with a broken wrist, an appendectomy, or my recent arthroscopic shoulder surgery should cost hundreds of dollars, not tens of thousands...and without an insurance company ever needing to get involved. Insurance should be for things like bone cancer, not routine care where you are in and out of the hospital in a few hours.

I also think that any solution that lands somewhere between those two extremes (like the ACA did) will do nothing but contribute to the dumpster fire. I'm not sure I really care which way it goes, but we've got to commit to one or the other.
