Again, nobody gets 100% support from the vanquished primary opponent's
supporters.
Bernie worked his ass off for her, starting by defusing an ugly scene at the convention by pleading for his supporters to support her; some booed him! And again, 82% of his primary voters voted for her in the election. * Edit to add footnote below.
Clinton made little or no effort to court Bernie supporters, after winning the nomination, then blamed Bernie for her loss. Not a good look.
Whoever wins the nomination will make a better effort to get Bernie's supporters on board; they'd have to make a better effort than Clinton did.
I don't think I've seen a number anywhere for how many Jill Stein voters were Bernie supporters and how many were Stein from the jump. My suspicion is that there's a kind ov voter who defines himself/herself as "Green Party" and they don't pick up a lot of dissatisfied losers from the major parties.
I'll leave you with this nice panel discussion from Vox which sums it up. Yes, Bernie voters defected and yes more of them did so than the margin of victory. But also--even greater numbers of Kasich supporters abandoned Trump for Hillary!
And more Hillary voters voted for McCain in 2008 than Sanders voters voted for Trump in 2016
So A) it's a common phenomenon B) it works both ways and C) Bernie Bros have gotten a bad rap given how few of them switched compared to other primary losers in other elections, INCLUDING Republican primary losers in THIS election.
*footnote per attached article: interestingly only 8% and 9% of Bernie voters voted Trump in Wi and MI, but 16% in PA.... [Post edited by southdenverhoo at 02/19/2020 5:14PM]
