We HAVE to make going to war a legislative decision, not an executive one.

The men and women in the House and Senate would be less prone to make unreasoned decisions simply because so many people with diverse views have to come to a consensus. That is what the constitution calls for, but the last 50 years or so, that responsibility has been abandoned in favor of the president.

Having said that our leaders have too broadly defined "national interest" and at the same time have been too quick to use military force without having a plan for the aftermath of its use.

In almost all cases it has resulted in making a bad situation worse and at the cost of treasure and life.
If we truly want to change how we go to war we must demand more of our leaders by electing those who value doing the right thing vs doing the politically expedient thing.
