The argument for intervening in Iraq and Afghanistan was for US security

Not taking action would lead to rampant proliferation of Al Qaeda, ISIS, and like-minded groups with intent to cause harm to the US and our interests abroad. Now, one can also argue that our intervention did just that. It's an impossible "war" to win, unfortunately.
