The 47% pre-ACA population exists in Alabama and Louisiana too. In larger numbers than in other states. What those states did was refuse federal funding that to date would have been 100% and even after 2020 (without a change in the law pr extension) 90% for those covered by the expansion. So the argument that they refused the expansion because of that (and not politics) falls apart quickly. Couple it with their complete lack of investment in the exchanges or any efforts at all to implement the ACA on the state level, pushing the poor, sick population that would have been subject to a 100% federally funded Medicaid expansion to date onto an exchange run by the feds that is not customized to work in their states, and its no secret there arent many insurers participating in states like Alabama. From what I gather the same story is not true in blue states like CA, MA, NY, and VT.
How one gets that this is anything other than partisan politics is baffling. These guys dont give a shit about their people plain and simple -- or at least not enough to hand a victory to the Dems.
